SIBU: Democratic Action Party (DAP) members of parliament here have been urged to do more in the interest of the town.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong Branch Chairman Wong Ching Yong, who pressed for more action said both Lanang MP Alice Lau and Sibu MP Oscar Ling, have been in office for over six months since their re-election to parliament.

“Having served for more than a decade in their respective positions, both of them are no longer novice politicians.

“Their tenure as elected representatives, coupled with their status as members of the ruling party, grants them a considerably larger scope to make meaningful contributions,” he said at SUPP Dudong branch women section Parent’s Day celebration Saturday (June 10).

Wong stressed the need for them to address long-standing issues and urgent concerns that affect the welfare of the people.

Citing the example of the Sibu Airport Road, which falls under the jurisdiction of the federal government, Wong pointed out that the road conditions remain unsatisfactory.

“Shouldn’t these two DAP MPs demonstrate to the people how they will bring about improvements in the shortest possible time?” he asked.

Regarding Ling’s allocation of RM500,000 for additional parking lots at Sibu Hospital, Wong suggested that a permanent solution be pursued.

He also called on both MPs to address the longstanding request for a Heart Centre and Cancer Centre in Sibu.

“The absence of these two major medical centres means that more patients and their families will continue to endure multiple pressures while fighting against illness and facing the inconvenience or even risks associated with traveling long distances for medical treatment,” he said.
