KUCHING: Enrolment in Islamic religious schools under Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) is on an upward trend with more parents interested in sending their children to these schools.

MIS president Datuk Misnu Taha said that the number of applications is increasing in tandem with the increasing demand for Islamic religious schools.

In pointing out the high demand to enter into Islamic schools, he said SK Agama Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan has only 212 places and the number of applications for the school is 707.

“As for SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi, there are only 180 places and we have received 809 applications.

“This shows the trend in the demand for entering religious schools. However, they (applicants) need to undergo special tests to enter into this school,” he said.

He was speaking to the reporters after attending the launching of Turkey-Syria Earthquake Relief Aid at SK Agama Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan here yesterday (Feb 12).

Adding further, he said that trend is due to the hard work and quality of teachers educating the children in these schools.

“I am very proud of the performance of the teachers who have done well to educate the students in the schools.

“Alhamdulillah the achievements so far have been incredibly promising and impressive.

“In Islamic schools, we emphasize on the students learning three languages namely, Arabic, English and Malay,” he said.

At the event, around 200 students had finished their year-end primary school examination (UPSR), performing the Khatan Al-Quran.
