KUCHING: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus (Swinburne Sarawak) celebrated the successful completion of its English Enhancement Programme (EEP) by 21 students recently, marking their readiness for university life.

According to lecturer Marione Anne Foo, the EEP offers students an immersive learning environment, focusing on academic reading, writing, communication, and more.

Additional workshops covering various topics such as self-care, library literacy, and student clubs aim to equip students with essential skills for university life.

“The ‘Uni Life Experience’ programme is an integral part of the EEP, allowing students to explore both on- and off-campus opportunities. Through social activities, networking events, and excursions, students gain valuable insights and experiences,” Foo explained.

Encouraging more students to join, she emphasised the programme’s role in enhancing interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, providing a competitive edge in higher education.

Expressing positive feedback, Muhammad Fawwaz Fakhri praised the programme’ impact on his social skills, while Jap KaiHuai described it as enjoyable and eye-opening.

The EEP Certificate Award Ceremony, held at Swinburne Sarawak’s campus, saw the attendance of university officials, including Pro Vice-Chancellor and CEO Ir Professor Lau Hieng Ho, members of the Executive Group, and proud parents of the students.

Fully sponsored by Yayasan Sarawak, the EEP is a tailored four-week programme designed to elevate students’ English language proficiency, facilitating a smooth transition into higher education. Open to all Sarawakian students meeting entry criteria, the programme offers comprehensive support.

Participants not only had their tuition fees covered but also received a one-time RM300 settling-in allowance and free on-campus accommodation throughout the programme.

Upon completion, students have the opportunity to pursue foundation, diploma, or degree programmes at Swinburne Sarawak.

Swinburne Sarawak’s next EEP intake is scheduled for 29 April.
