KUCHING: Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) kicked off the Ramadhan month with the Majma Raya Fest 2024.

Launched by Premier’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, the fest this time around has over 80 booths for patrons to shop from.

According to TBS general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie, the fest will be held from Mar 12 to Apr 9 with the sale of various food, clothing choices and Ramadhan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri needs.

“The fest is to give a platform to entrepreneurs to earn some income. Since the inaugural event in 2018, this fest has received an overwhelming response from the people,” he said when met by the media after the launch of the fest at Majma Mall here, today.

At the same ceremony, Juma’ani also witnessed a symbolic handing over of aid to asnaf (those eligible to receive zakat or tithe).

Mohd Shibli TBS will be distributing assistance amounting to RM1.7 million to 5,799 asnaf statewide.

“Hopefully the aid will ease their financial situation for Aidilfitri and Ramadhan,” he said, adding that TBS hopes to collect RM6.4 million for its Zakat al-Fitrah this year.

“The amount has changed to RM7.50. Though it has increased by 50 sen, I believe that it will not stop the people from paying their zakat,” he said.
