Jobless couple picked up for suspected drug activities

SELANGAU: An unemployed couple was among four persons arrested for being involved in drug activities last Wednesday (March 31). Mukah police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau said a team from the Mukah NCID and Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division conducted a raid under an operation codenamed Ops Bersepadu on a longhouse at Jalan Sibu-Bintulu around 11.10am. The team inspected the longhouse and found a couple aged 28 and 34, acting suspiciously. “Further inspections led to the discovery of a plastic packet and eight straw tubes containing crystalline substances, believed to be syabu weighing around 6.11g. “Both the suspects and the seizure were taken to Mukah NCID office for further action,” he said. The suspects tested positive for drugs and have been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Apart from that, the police also arrested two men aged 25 and 45, on suspicion of being involved in substance abuse activities in front of the longhouse. Jimmy said both men, who are labourers in an oil palm plantation, have been tested positive for drugs and will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

Selangau needs a hospital
