MIRI: Tamu Baru Desa Senadin, which is scheduled for completion in May this year, is set to accommodate 28 hawkers that are currently operating along the streets in Desa Senadin here.

The project costs RM500,000 and it is under Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funds for year 2020.

“The project is ahead of schedule by a month,” said Lee, adding that the project is 95 percent completed.

The Transport Minister, when met after visiting the project site in Desa Senadin today (Mar 30) also suggested that Miri City Council (MCC) carry out an in-depth study on licensed and unlicensed hawkers here so that a proper place for them to do their businesses can be provided in future.

Lee also revealed his plan to decentralised hawker centres in the northern part of the city.

He believed that by setting up hawker centres in that area, it would help to reduce congestion in the town.
