Tech advancements and sustainable practices go hand in hand: Sagah

KUCHING: Industry players should embrace technological advancements and integrate sustainable practices to stay relevant and responsible, said Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

The Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) said at the same time the industry players should foster partnerships and share knowledge to drive collective growth.

“By leveraging your unique strengths and perspectives, you can create a stronger, more resilient industry.

“The industry players also should prioritise inclusivity and diversity within industries. A variety of backgrounds and experiences enriches your creativity and problem-solving abilities, leading to more holistic solutions,” he said in his speech at the ‘Synergistic Networking Session: Industry – Institution Engagement 2023’ at the Imperial Hotel here today.  

The development of various advancements, particularly in the new economy and the Industrial Revolution (IR) 4.0 in Sarawak, is set to create numerous high-skilled job opportunities for its citizens in the future, he said.

The Sarawak government’s efforts to spearhead diverse new economic resources are opening doors to various job prospects.

“This includes opportunities in ecotourism, resort management, and adventure tourism. Furthermore, Sarawak’s abundant natural resources can accelerate the energy and mining sectors, providing ample opportunities for engineers, environmental scientists, and logistics experts.

“The development of IR 4.0 is a transformative force shaping the future of industries in Sarawak. It is crucial for society to embrace innovation and adapt strategies to harness their potential in their respective fields,” Sagah said.

“Nevertheless, it is crucial for all stakeholders to recognise the significance of skills improvement and workforce retraining within their respective companies and organisations. Investing in education and training initiatives is a fundamental step towards enhancing the skills of the workforce,” he added.

The session today is jointly organised by Meitd and Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions in support of the Malaysian  Board of Technologies (MBOT) and Association of Professional Technicians and Technologies (APTT).

Also present were Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis and Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions executive director and Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) chairman Hallman Sabri.
