SARATOK: A 28-year-old man died from severe injuries after his car collided with an oncoming lorry along KM71, Jalan Sarikei-Betong on yesterday.
Saratok OCPD DSP Mordani Tanin said the accident happened around 10.25 pm when both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.
The victim is identified as Kamarudin Halik, a technician attached to the Land and Survey Department Betong Division.
“It is believed that the victim’s car swerved into the opposite lane and collided with the lorry.
“As a result, the victim who sustained severe injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said, adding that his body was taken to Saratok Hospital for post-mortem.
Mordani added that the lorry driver managed to escape the accident without any injuries.
The impact of the collision damaged the front left part of the lorry while the victim’s car was badly wrecked.
Mordani said the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
