SIBU: An underage rider was among two arrested after using Jalan Awang Ramli Amit at Dataran Sibu as their racing circuit.

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the operation, codenamed Ops Samseng Jalanan, was carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department from 10pm to 2.30am last night (April 7).

“A total of 13 motorists were inspected during the operation, and two of them were arrested.

“Both of them, aged 16 and 22, are being investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving,” he said in a statement today (April 8).

Zulkipli said that three motorcycles were also confiscated during the operation for documentation purposes.

“Several offences and summonses were issued to the motorists during the operation.

“Among them are not having a driving licence, fancy number plates, no side mirrors, non-functional brakes, and modified exhaust systems,” he added.

In the meantime, Zulkipli urged everyone to obey traffic laws and reminded parents to keep an eye on their children and make sure they always follow the rules.
