Teenager sent to rehab school

KUCHING: A teenage boy was ordered to attend the Henry Gurney School until the age of 21 after pleading guilty to possessing 0.04 grams of methamphetamine in December last year.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar imposed the sentence on the 19-year-old boy after hearing a social report from the Department of Social Welfare yesterday.

According to the charge, he was found in possession of the illicit substance near a laundry shop in Stutong on December 7, 2022.

He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same act.

According to the case facts, a police team apprehended the youth in front of a self-service laundry shop in Stutong at around 11 a.m. on December 7, 2022, on suspicion of being involved in drug activities.

Upon examination, a transparent plastic package containing crystal-like granules believed to be methamphetamine was found in the defendant’s possession.

Meanwhile, in a separate Magistrate’s Court, a man was sentenced to four months in prison after he pleaded guilty to possessing 0.06 grams of methamphetamine last month.

Mohamad Ridzuan Usup pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

He committed the offence in a house at Kampung Samariang Baru on March 24.
