KUCHING: Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar today received a courtesy visit from his Terengganu and Kelantan counterparts Datuk Yahaya Ali and Datuk Abdullah Ya’kub respectively.
Yahaya’s wife Zarani Othman and Abdullah’s spouse Datuk Rowiyah Ghazali were also in the delegation. The visitors were given a tour of the chamber meeting room and had the opportunity to view DUN Sarawak’s uniquely designed complex.
At the same time, Mohamad Asfia shared the background and history of the legislative assembly and briefed them on the state’s various culture and ethnic groups.
“Asfia also discussed ways to empower the legislative institution so that it would become a highly important institution or at the same level as the judiciary in line with the Federal Constitution,” DUN Sarawak said in a press release.
This will ensure the position of the state legislative assemblies in Malaysia are synchronised so that they would not be left behind from the transformation process.
Also present during the visit was Mohamad Asfia’s wife Datuk Fatimah Mohd Iskandar, deputy Kelantan state secretary Zaika Yamani Ibrahim and DUN Sarawak secretary Pele Peter Tinggom.
