KUCHING: The people in Siburan can breathe a sigh of relief as they will have a new health clinic soon.

The Type 3 facilities health clinic is expected to be completed by December 2021.

Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin conveyed his appreciation to the federal government for granting the wishes of the people.

“We have waited for 16 years. This clinic will be a great relief to the community in Siburan and its surrounding area,” he said in a press conference after the earth-breaking ceremony at Siburan, yesterday.

He said this is because the current clinic is unable to accommodate the number of patients, as it could take up to 200 to 300 patients daily.

“The situation of the current clinic is in a very dilapidated condition and is very congested.

“Therefore, I am very grateful and want to thank the Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye for making the dream of the people here a reality and for listening to our voice in Parliament,” he said.

Dr Lee, who was present at the earth-breaking ceremony, later went for a site visit at two health clinics in Kampung Benuk and Krakong to study what needs to be improved.

On April 13, 2011, former Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai had proposed and announced to build a new and bigger clinic in Siburan when he made a working visit to the Siburan rural clinic.

He said the clinic for Siburan costing RM22 million will be built and promised that it will be
completed by 2016.

Another former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramanian also made the same promise that a health clinic would be built in Siburan on April 25, 2016.
