MIRI: A cat barely escaped from the jaws of death when a monitor lizard went right up to the porch of a house here and snapped at it.

The cat was lucky because its owner just happened to see the whole incident unfolding before her eyes and screamed.

As a result, the reptile was temporarily stunned and let go of the cat.

Probably realising it had just lost a good meal, the lizard refused to scamper away, which was all the time the Miri Civil Defence Force (APM) team needed.

The team rushed to the scene to find the reptile still there. In about 20 minutes, they had the reptile secured.
