Three arrested, 1.62kg marijuana seized in raid

MIRI: Narcotics police here arrested three individuals and seized 1.62kg of marijuana drugs at two separate locations on Thursday (Oct 21).

District police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, who confirmed the case, said the marijuana drugs seized from the suspects, were valued around RM9,750.

The arrests were carried out in front of a courier service company in Piasau and in a house at Padang Kerbau, Pujut from 6pm to 7.30pm.

“Our team managed to arrest two men and a woman aged 27, 31, and 32 years, on suspicion of being involved in drug distribution activities.

“Police also seized four compressed lumps of dried leaves as well as 20 plastic packets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, weighing approximately 1.62kg,” he said.

The Magistrate Court here has allowed two of the suspects to be remanded for seven days while, the other suspect was remanded for five days.

Hakemal said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment with 15 lashes of whipping, upon conviction.
