Three drug-related arrests in two days

SERIAN: Three men and a woman were arrested in separate police raids recently, said local police chief DSP Aswandy Anis. In the first case, two local men were arrested. With them was a transparent plastic container inside of which were blue plastic packets and a cut straw, all with crystals that were suspected to be methamphetamine.

The raid took place next to Serian Ambank around 8.20pm on Jan 17 when a team of narcotics police arrested the men in a parked white car.

“The substance in the plastic packets and cut straws found in the driver’s seat weighed 1.94 grammes.

“In the same search, we also found another cut straw with 0.09 grammes of methamphetamine in one of the suspect’s pockets,” said Aswandy in a statement.

In the second case, a couple in a house at Kampung Hulu was arrested around 5.20am on Jan 18.

“There the investigators found a black pouch bag containing a plastic packet with transparent crystal cuts suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 0.38 grammes.

“The market price of the drugs was approximately RM350 and all are said to be distributed to local addicts,” he said.

Both cases will be investigated under Section 12 (2) of Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries a fine of not more than RM100,000 or imprisonment of not more than five years or both.

Aswandy said the results of the initial urine tests on all suspects proved positive for amphetamine /methamphetamine.

They are investigated under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries a fine of not more than RM5,000 or a jail term of not more than two years.

All suspects are being remanded for four days in Serian Police Station until the investigations have been completed. They were also found to have previous drug-related records.
