MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau announced that three bridges damaged during the 2021 floods will be rebuilt, with construction expected to start next year.

The bridges are located in Sungai Paong, Upper Sungai Tutoh, and Long Loteng.

Dennis said that the Public Works Department (PWD) has estimated the costs for these projects.

“If we had started construction in 2021 and 2022, each bridge would have cost about RM3 million. However, due to challenging situations in those years, the costs have now increased,” he told reporters after the Long Atip Resident’s Association (PPLA) Pre-Christmas Dinner 2023 at a prominent hotel here last night.

He confirmed that the state government has approved funding for these projects.

At the dinner, Dennis also announced grants of RM15,000 to PPLA and RM5,000 to the BEM church in Long Atip.

Additionally, Dennis touched on the RM25 million Federation of Orang Ulu Associations Malaysia (Forum) Cultural Centre at Jalan Padang Kerbau. Initially slated for completion this year, the project faced delays but is now expected to be finished by February 2024.

“I think we can start operating the centre by June 2024,” he added.
