Three locals held for theft

All three men will be investigated under Section 379 and Section 379A of the Penal Code for theft.

PADAWAN: Police here yesterday arrested three local men in connection with a case of motorcycle and iron theft around Siburan.

Padawan district police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad in a statement, said two of them were suspected to have stolen a motorcycle that was parked

outside a house in Taman Duranda Emas, Mile 18 on June 2.

Both of them, aged 18 and 24, were arrested by Padawan Criminal Investigation Division (CID) men at a house in Taman Duranda Emas around 11.30am.

“Interrogation found that both suspects denied any involvement in the motorcycle theft, claiming that they had no idea that the motorcycle was a stolen item.

“However, they were detained for further investigation,” he said, adding that both had past records related to drugs.

He disclosed that investigations into the duo also led to the arrest of a third suspect around 4.45pm at the former Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre (CCRC) project site in Mile 6, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

Abang Zainal pointed out that a motorcycle which was reported missing on May 28 in Kota Sentosa, was also found with the third suspect.

During questioning, the third suspect claimed that the motorcycle was handed over to him by a friend named ‘Boy’.

“Further investigation found that he was involved in the theft of iron and cable from a petrol station in Mile 6.

“The suspect who admitted to the crime, stated that he had sold the items at a scrap metal shop in Kota Sentosa,” the local police chief said.

All of them are currently being investigated under Section 379 and Section 379A of the Penal Code for theft.
