SERIAN: Two sexagenarians were killed in a three-vehicle accident at KM14, Jalan Serian-Tebedu on Tuesday (June 7).

Sarawak traffic police chief Supt Bingkok John said the fatal accident involved a pick-up truck, a motorcycle and a van, and happened around 10.30am.

The injured motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital for further treatment. However, he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

Investigations found that the pick-up truck, which was driven by a retired teacher, crashed into the motorcycle that had just exited a junction.

“As a result, the pick-up truck dragged the motorcycle before crashing into a van and overturned.

“The pick-up driver, identified as Bernard Lohin, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His body was taken to Serian Hospital for post-mortem,” Supt Bingkok said in a statement.

He added that the motorcyclist, identified as Mat Lumpeng, 62, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.

Both bodies were taken to the hospital’s forensic unit for post-mortem. Meanwhile, the 43-year-old van driver did not sustain any injuries.
