MIRI: Donating one point of blood can save the lives of up to three people, and with this in mind the Sarawak State Library Miri (Pustaka Miri) is organising its first blood donation drive of the year on Saturday (March 11).

Continuing its community services responsibility effort, the campaign is organised in collaboration with Sarawak Teachers’ Union Miri Division, Sarawak Lakiput Association, Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Association, Miri District Scout Council and Miri Hospital’s Blood Bank.

It will be held at the foyer of the library from 9 am to 12 pm.

Pustaka Miri corporate management officer Shirley Szebah Mambai said organising the drive is a noble practice that can foster social responsibility by encouraging people to donate blood.

The campaign also aims to raise awareness on the importance of donating blood to help save lives as well as to instil the spirit of volunteerism, she said.

“We have been organising such programme since the library’s opening in 2002,” she said in a press statement today.

Successful blood donors will be given snacks and gifts as a token of appreciation for their support.

Several interesting activities will be held concurrently, including exhibitions, library membership registration and sale of books published by the library at special prices.

“Each Pustaka Miri member who registers on the day will receive an attractive welcoming gift. Do not miss this golden opportunity to participate in the activities held throughout the programme.

“Do bring along friends and family members to enliven the atmosphere of this campaign,” Shirley added.

For the record, a similar drive was held at the end of last year which saw 51 donors donating whereby a total of 41 pints of blood were collected.
