MIRI: Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting is hoping one day Sarawak’s very own Batik Linut textile will be worn by state civil servants while at work.

In stating this on Sunday at the closing of a two-day Batik Linut workshop, he said  as Putrajaya has made it compulsory for all federal civil servants to wear batik every Thursday, he hopes Sarawak will do the same.

“Why not? …. Sarawak Batik Linut is also part of Malaysian Batik,” he told a group of local media.

Lamin Dana Sdn Bhd managing director Diana Rose who was also present at the workshop echoed similar views.

“Sarawak Batik Linut is an alternative and innovation batik … today’s workshop is an outreach programme that we hosted to get local people involved in Sarawak’s very own Batik Linut production, ” she said.

A total 21 participants attended at the workshop at Miri Coco Cabana organised by Batik Linut Sdn Bhd with the Sarawak Craft Council.
