KUCHING: Tourism, Arts and Culture minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has poured cold water on criticisms of him consuming alcohol and dancing in public at a festival.

In response to Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Masjid Tanah MP Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin who questioned if Tiong has his own unique way of attracting tourists by partying and dancing in public, he responded, “It was a Tang Lung (Lantern) festival. So I joined them.

“I also had some fun with the kids, acted a little ‘crazy’. What is wrong with that? That was a Chinese festival. Nothing wrong with that!

“Don’t make a big fuss out of it,” he said during the debate on the 2024 Supply Bill in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Oct 31).

Tiong, who is Bintulu MP, also said there was no problem with him drinking alcohol as he is not a Muslim.

“Most importantly, we must have mutual respect among all individuals as a means to achieve harmony,” he said.
