Toastmasters to mark 100th anniversary of club

KUCHING: Representatives of 12 clubs here will be participating in the prelude to the 100th anniversary of the Toastmasters International.

According to Jessie Chin Division D director in Kuching, the occasion to be held on Oct 22 would take place at a prominent hotel here.

She stated that the organising team headed by Chester Bong, who also holds the position of Area D2 director for the 2023-2024 term, expects over 100 members to attend the function.

“The event is expected to feature a speech by the current District 87 director, Nur Zaihanirah. For the record, District 87 encompasses clubs in Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, and Indonesia.

“Zaihanirah who is from Kuching was elected as district director at the Bali district conference in 2023,” she said.

On top of that, she added, the occasion will also be attended by the guest speaker Datuk Dr Lau Pang Heng, a past international president of Toastmasters International.

“Toastmasters is an organisation dedicated to empowering individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.

“Our club’s mission is to provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, leading to greater self-confidence and personal growth,’ she said.

Having said that, Chin called on the members of the public who may be interested to join a Toastmasters club
