KUCHING: Seven Hong Kong tourists were here on a mission to do charity work with Hope Place earlier this week.

According to a press release issued yesterday (Oct 5), the tourists were divided into two groups. Three of them volunteered at Hope Place’s Kedai Budget, while the remaining individuals joined the NGO team to visit local communities in Samarahan and Padawan.

The volunteers helped pack and gave all the aid as well as clean an 81-years-old disabled man’s house.

Meanwhile, the volunteers at the Kedai Budget were amazed how many locals supported the needy community besides caring for the environment. The volunteers sorted out some clothes and other necessities for the recent Belaga fire victims.

One of the volunteers, Alan Cheung, is actively involved in charitable activities in Hong Kong. He said Kuching was “rich in greenery and populated by wonderful people.”

Another participant, Yu Hee Ha, was delighted to spend time with the local community during her first visit here. She found it to be a meaningful experience and generously donated RM350 to Hope Place.

Hope Place thanked the Hong Kong volunteers.

“While most tourists typically visit Kuching for its local cuisine and diverse culture, these tourists have made a significant impact by positively influencing the lives of the local community in need,” it said.
