KUCHING: The all-new Toyota Corolla Cross has indicated strong demands on both 1.8G and 1.8V variants.

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd will continue its order-taking for both variants with the locally assembled units available for delivery towards quarter four.

A total of 17,000 units of the new Toyota and Lexus vehicles were sold in the first three months of the year with a market share of approximately 12.1 percent, an increase of 62 percent year-on-year compared to the sales volume for the same period in 2020.

“Malaysia has seen strong Toyota sales this year due to improving conditions of the pandemic. With our wider line-up of models and exciting offerings, we are confident that our sales volume will grow steadily this year and certainly exceed the volume recorded in 2020,” said UMW Toyota Motor deputy chairman Akio Takeyama.

The bestselling Toyota models were the Toyota Vios and the Toyota Hilux, accounting for approximately 56 percent of the pick-up truck market for the first quarter.

UMW Toyota Motor president Ravindran K, commenting on the achievement, said during the pandemic in 2020, the market was declining and this year, with the support of the government through the National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana) programme, new vehicle sales have been consistently high.

With Hari Raya coming up, UMW Toyota will be running the ‘Countless Rewards’ promotion for customers. It also includes exemption on sales tax that is applicable to the CBU models. The EZ Beli financing scheme offers customers low instalments which varies depending on the model.
