Trio nabbed for drug possession

SIBU: Three local men were nabbed for alleged possession of drugs worth over RM20,00 at Lorong Teku yesterday.

Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspects aged between 23 and 50, were detained at 12.10am, which led to the discovery of five plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine.

“The substances weighing 252.9g and valued around RM25,390, were seized as evidence.

“All of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, and were taken to the police station for further action,” he said.

Initial investigation found that two of the suspects had records of drug-related crimes.
Zulkipli added that the suspects have been been remanded for six days to facilitate investigations into the case.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

If convicted under Section 39B, the suspects may face the death penalty.

Meanwhile, if convicted under Section 15(1)(a), the suspects may be fined up to RM5,000 or sentenced to jail for a term up to two years or both at once, and be placed under supervision for two years under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
