KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)’s objective for the upcoming battle in the 15th general election (GE15) is plain and straightforward, says Eric Tay Tze Kok.

The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch Youth chief said the aim is to consolidate Sarawak’s parliamentary seats, and thus, reclaim Sarawak’s rights, including constitutional amendments.

He said that GPS’s goal and sincerity is to stand with the Sarawak people to resist the erosion of external powers, particularly Peninsular political parties.

“GPS is not BN (Barisan Nasional), PN (Perikatan Nasional), PH (Pakatan Harapan) nor has it cooperated with any Malayan parties in the GE15..

“Since its inception, it has upheld the principle of Sarawak first, standing with all Sarawakians, defending the rights and interests of Sarawak, and standing to create a better future for Sarawak,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He asserted that Sarawak’s rights and interests should be safeguarded by Sarawakians, and not to be entrusted to the Peninsular political party and only the GPS can lead and accelerate the policies that are benefit to Sarawak.

Unlike the Peninsular political party, he asserted that GPS is not involved in political chaos or engage in racial and religious extremism which caused conflicts and economic stagnation.

“As Sarawak is in need of an economic boom, policies that benefit us, the people of Sarawak should maintain the homogenised community of Sarawak and to protect Sarawak’s rights and interests.

“In contrary with the Malayan political scene, Sarawak government has brought out policies that benefit Sarawakians, including the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), the establishment of Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), and the allocation of funds for the diverse religious groups in Sarawak,” he said.

Meanwhile, GPS, he said, emphasises greatly on the importance of education.

He added that in providing study loans and scholarships through Yayasan Sarawak, GPS do not discriminate and provide assistance for all Sarawakians who have been approved to enter national universities to further their study and cover their living expenses.

“The Sarawak government along with the help of Yayasan Sarawak had managed the development of the well established Swinburne University branch campus, Curtin University branch campus, UNIMAS and the setting up of various international schools in Sarawak.

“All for the better future of Sarawak’s future generations. So I hope this time round, let us give GPS a chance to win back our autonomy,” he said.
