KUCHING: Police have arrested two motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol at Jalan Batu Kawa.

Padawan district police chief, Supt Aidil Bolhassan, said during their ‘Ops Mabuk’ around 10pm last Friday, they arrested the two men from among five individuals suspected of drink-driving.

He said 15 traffic policemen from the state Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department and Padawan’s division of the department carried out the two-hour operation.

“Of the five, two were taken to Batu Kawa police station to undergo breathalyser tests and it was found both exceeded the prescribed limit of 80mg/100ml of blood.

“Both have readings of 92mg/100ml and 285mg/100ml,” he said in a statement.

Aidil added the drivers also admitted that they drank ‘chap langkau’ (locally made alcoholic drink).

The case is currently investigated under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
