KUALA LUMPUR: A desire to better appreciate the meaning of sacrifice in Islam, two brothers set out on a mission to travel more than 5,000 kilometres on a high-powered motorcycle to perform the sacrificial ritual in Cambodia, which celebrates Aidiladha tomorrow.

The mission named ‘Misi Korban Kembara Ride 2023’, by Zaid Muhammad Mohd Rais, 48, and Saiful Affandee Mohd Rais, 57, from the Troka X Plorer Team, lasting 10 days began on June 23.

Zaid Muhammad said the journey also aims to extend the contribution of the public, especially Malaysians, to Muslims who are a minority group in the country.

They decided to use a 650 cc Suzuki Strom V because it is easy to maneuver over tough road conditions in the long trip.

“It was a different and exciting experience in addition to having the opportunity to educate myself to be more patient in going through every challenge.

“This is because, there are times when our journey is a bit challenging in unfamiliar environment besides having to adapt to the hot and dusty weather conditions and the busy traffic which are different from Malaysia,” he told Bernama.

Talking about the sacrifices that will be held in the country famous for Angkor Wat, Zaid Muhammad said it will be conducted in several areas including Phnom Penh, Battambang and Kampung Swai on June 29.

“A total of eight cows will be sacrificed apart from handing over rice donations to 35 families in each area with each family receiving five kilogrammes of rice.

“We also presented sincere donations from Malaysians as an effort to help build a well in Cambodia for the benefit of Muslims in that country,” said Zaid Muhammad, who used their own savings to make the mission a success.

According to the International Islamic University of Malaysia al-Quran lecturer, their journey will then continue to Hua Hin before going to Surat Thani, in Thailand the next day.

“In Thailand, we are also planning to hand over rice donation to a poor tahfiz centre there,” he said, who is expected to return to Malaysia on July 3, at 11 pm.
