KUCHING: Two eateries at Mile 3 here have been ordered to temporarily close after health officials found rat droppings and cockroaches in the premises.

Both premises were ordered to close for 14 days under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.

The decision was made following a raid by the Kuching Divisional Health Office’s Food Safety and Quality Unit yesterday (Mar 7), which New Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak attended.

The raid around 5 pm began with inspections in the kitchen area of both premises.

Inspectors found rat excrement under the food storage area in the first eatery and the samples were kept as evidence.

Meanwhile, the second eatery saw health officials finding cockroaches roaming around the kitchen.

They also found that both premises failed to produce proof of certificates for food handling and typhoid vaccination at their premises.

As a result, owners of both eateries were issued compounds under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
