Two jobless men remanded for drugs

Plastic bags and straw containers containing syabu were seized together with the two men in a raid in Kampung Lalang, in Debak on Wednesday.

DEBAK: Two unemployed individuals were arrested and 30.1 grams of syabu seized in a raid by Betong Narcotics Crime Investigation Division at Kampung Lalang, here yesterday.

Betong district police chief DSP Zamry Alli said the two suspects, aged 32 and 19 years, were found to be positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine as a result of urine tests conducted.

“They were arrested under Section 39A (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952 apart from being investigated under Section 15 (1) (a) ADB 1952.

“As a result of the raid at 11:30am, police also found suspected syabu drugs weighing 30.1 grams which is estimated to cost RM3,010,” he said in a statement.

He explained that if convicted, the suspects could be sentenced to life imprisonment or a minimum of five years and not less than 10 lashes.

He added that the suspects, both of whom are locals, are being remanded for seven days.
