BINTULU: Two local men suspected of being involved in drug distribution were arrested in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Bersepadu’ yesterday (Mar 24).

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the suspects, both in their mid-20s, were picked up in Park City area here.

“During the arrest, the police seized 134g of ecstasy powder, 2.7g of ecstasy pills and 1.6g of ketamine. A black Honda Civic and a sum of cash were also confiscated.

“Preliminary investigations found that the seized drugs were intended to cater to about 50 users at entertainment centres around the district,” he said.

The first suspect is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the second suspect under Section 39A (2) of the same Act.

They will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after testing positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Nixon said the arrests were part of continuous efforts to combat drug abuse and prevent criminal activities in Bintulu.
