KUCHING: Following a call received at 9.37pm on Sunday from Sarikei Police Station regarding two persons who have gone missing while jungle trekking at Jalan Ulu Sarikei-Bayong, Sarikei, Sarikei BOMBA immediately formed a search and rescue (SAR) team to look for the missing persons.

On the first day of operation which started at 7.30am yesterday, the search area covered a 2km radius about an hour walk from the operation centre. The SAR team was assisted by BOMBA’s STORM and MUST teams comprising three personnel from Sibu Zone.

The two missing persons were identified as Azizan Amir bin Mohd Nizam, 21, and Lister Emperang Anak Matu, 25. Eighteen others came out of the jungle safely.

A report was lodged by a father on one of the missing persons at Jakar Police Station at 8.05pm.

After being informed of the incident, the longhouse residents immediately search for the victims.

The SAR operation ended at 2.20pm yesterday when the two missing persons were found safe at 2.11pm.

The operation was led by Sarikei BOMBA station chief, Suna Bin Haji Kaha.
