Two new cases in Miri

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new Covid-19 cases in Miri today, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 1,096.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily statement today said both cases were imported cases.

“Case 1095 is a local man who tested positive on Dec 21 two days after arriving in Sarawak through Miri Airport from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

“The case was first screened upon his arrival from Manila, Philippines to KLIA on Dec 18 and was tested negative on the same day. The case is categorised under Import A,” it said.

On Case 1096, the committee revealed that the case is a civil servant who had entered Sarawak via Miri Airport on Dec 20.

“The case tested positive on the second day of his quarantine period.”

Both cases did not experience any symptoms and have been admitted to Miri Hospital.

Close contact tracing for the case also has been activated and categorised under Import B.

Meanwhile, only one case has recovered and been discharged from hospital.

This brings the total recovered and discharged cases in the state to 1,016 or 96.82 percent from the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state.

There were 16 cases still receiving treatment in hospitals. Out of this, nine are in isolation wards in Sarawak General Hospital, in Miri Hospital and three cases in Sibu Hospital.

On persons under investigation (PUI) cases, seven were reported and two are waiting for laboratory test results.
