MIRI: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Ragad Waleed Alkurdi Taib have kicked off their state-wide Chinese New Year visits in Miri yesterday.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Ragad Waleed Alkurdi Taib (2nd and 3rd right) with Miri Housing executive chairman, Dato Lau Siew Wai (centre) with other guests perform ‘yee sang’.

Their first stop upon arrival was to Miri Housing executive chairman Dato Lau Siew Wai’s residence at Hill Top garden here before proceeding to Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin’s residence in Tanjong Lobang.

This was followed by a visit to Interhill managing director Datuk Hii Chang Pee’s open house also located in Tanjong Lobang.

Taib wrapped up his Chinese New Year visit to Samling group founder Tan Sri Yaw Teck Seng’s residence in Marina Bay where they had lunch together.

Tun Pehin and wife are scheduled to fly for Sibu for similar occasion today.

Miri Housing executive chairman Dato Lau Siew Wai (right) hugging the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud upon the latter’s arrival to his residence in Hill Top Garden here this morning. Lau and Tun Pehin have known each other for more than 30 years.

Also were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais; Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat; Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting and Miri Resident Mastapa Julaihi.
