MIRI: E-hailing service Uber is now available at Miri Hospital for the convenience of patients who have an appointment or relatives visiting patients at the hospital.

Miri Hospital Director, Dr Jack Wong Siew Yu said the latest initiative was mooted together with Miri Hospital Board of Visitors and Uber to enable members of the public to have more transportation options beside taxis and buses.

“Two locations at Miri Hospital have been allocated for Uber service to pick up and drop off passengers,” he told a media conference here yesterday.

Dr Wong said  the two locations were at the hospital main lobby and at the bus stop with affordable fares that had been fixed by Uber for any location in Miri City to the hospital.

“One of the reasons for introducing the Uber service is to ease car parking congestion at the hospital, especially during the weekday,” he said.

At the moment, he said, Miri Hospital had a total of 797 carparks but it was inadequate, especially during weekdays for those who had appointments with specialists or visiting patients receiving treatment at the hospital.

Miri Hospital Board of Visitors chairman, Karambir Singh wanted members of the public to give feedbacks on services provided by the hospital as well as suggestions to improve them.

Karambir said the board of visitors can be contacted at phone line 085420033, fax line 085416514 and email at alphospital1719@gmail.com.

On another development, Dr Wong advised members of the public to call 999 if there were emergency cases in Miri City and not to call the hospital direct line at 085420033.

“The biggest advantage when calling 999 is that those calling will be connected directly to a person trained in emergency so that the necessary treatment can be given in an emergency situation,” he added.
