KUCHING: The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism at UCSI University’s Sarawak Campus signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jaipuria School of Business from India and NOMS Fochun Founders Sdn Bhd, paving the way for future academic and training collaborations.

The ceremony on Thursday (May 25) was witnessed by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.

Ting said the MoUs would facilitate various academic initiatives, including International Immersion Programmes, staff and student exchanges, joint research, and publications with academic partners from India.

He added that these partnerships, along with collaborative internship placements and training with industry partners, were crucial in equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills to strengthen the hospitality sector in Sarawak.

Meanwhile, UCSI Pro Vice-Chancellor (Sarawak Campus) Mukvinder Kaur Sandhu emphasised the joint commitment of the university to create an education ecosystem that produces highly skilled graduates who meet the demands of the industry.

Also present were Assoc Prof Christopher Wan Sageng, dean of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, UCSI University; Dr Rajiv R Thakur, director-general of Jaipuria School of Business; Dr Suzie Lim Swee Yen, principal assistant secretary of the Tourism Division at the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak; Dr Tapan Kumar Nayak, dean of Academics at Jaipuria School of Business; Mary Wan Mering, director of Stakeholders Relations at Sarawak Tourism Board; Elynnie Dominic Jau, government liaison manager at BESarawak; and Kelvin Chong and Ardeles Phua, directors of NOMS Malaysia.

BESarawak was announced as the official sponsor of the International Immersion Programme for 150 delegates from Jaipuria School of Business.

Additionally, UCSI University had the privilege of having Greenleaf as the sponsor for Sarawak’s signature beverage brand, the three-layer milk tea, promoting the local drink.
