KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching recently received an urgent call requesting for assistance for three women living in destitution.

The non-governmental organisation (NGO) disclosed that sisters Wenda Motol and Su-Eng, who are 49 and 60 respectively, live with their elderly mother in a rundown house at Kampung Bumbok.

Wenda, who used to plant and sell vegetables, was diagnosed with endometrial cancer last year and to make matters worse, she recently suffered a stroke.

“Wenda has lost so much weight. Although she can sit, she has difficulty walking, even short distances. She’s currently using a wheelchair to move about.

“Their mother, who is 83 years old, not only has diabetes and high blood pressure, she has Alzheimer’s disease and difficulty walking,” Hope Place disclosed on Thursday (Feb 9).

“Su-Eng is the only one taking care of Wenda and their mother on a daily basis.

“Previously, she worked in a fabric factory but had to stop to look after them.

“Without any income or help, they solely depend on Wenda’s brother, who works at a factory. As two members of the family are seriously ill, expenses are high.”

The trio currently live in a dilapidated wooden house, which has been their family home for years.

“We are supporting Wenda with special milk supplements recommended by doctors. We are also helping the trio with basic food aid. Wenda had also just applied for Community Welfare Department’s financial assistance, and awaiting reply.”
