UNIMAS excels with 8 medals at ITEX 2023

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has once again secured an impressive tally of 6 gold medals and 2 silver medals, further solidifying its reputation in the esteemed 34th International Invention, Innovation, and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2023) from May 10-12 held in Kuala Lumpur.

With a focus on Healthcare, ICT, and Biotechnology, the event drew inventors, researchers, and innovators from around the world

In a press release today, with participants from over 19 countries and a remarkable display of more than 700 inventions, ITEX 2023 served as a vibrant global arena for emerging technologies.

The university garnered significant recognition at ITEX 2023 with several remarkable inventions and awards. Dr. Mohd Razip Asaruddin, hailing from the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, was honored with a gold medal for his groundbreaking creation, The VCure. Dr. Isabel Fong Lim, from the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, achieved a gold medal for her impressive innovation, JardinRx: Garden of Health Against Colorectal Cancer.

Among the other notable inventions, Dr. Johari Abdullah, from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, developed SEEDs (Student Emotion Detection Systems), a gold-winning invention that employs artificial intelligence to analyze students’ emotions during online teaching and learning activities. Dr. Rehman Ullah Khan, from the Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development, designed iCOLLABS (Online Collaborative Learning System), another gold-awarded educational tool.

The inventive prowess of Ahmad Alif Kamal, from the Centre of Pre-University Studies, earned him a gold medal for his creation HazHunt: Marker-based AR App for Physical & Chemical Hazard Identification Training. Noraziah Abdul Wahab, from the Faculty of Engineering, received a gold medal for her research project focused on developing Phytobiotics as Disinfectant for Sustainable Water Treatment.

In addition to the gold medals, Dr. Juna Liau, representing the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, was awarded a silver medal for her work in developing a framework for documenting Ethnomedicine and its Potential. Dr. Jerome Kueh, affiliated with the Faculty of Economic and Business, also received a silver medal for his innovative approach to the Digital Economy Progress Index.
