KUCHING: Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg (pic) has urged Muslims to continue upholding the concept of moderation which is the way forward to a better future with not only their fellow Muslims but also the believers of other faiths.

“I believe that the non-Muslims can accept a Muslim leader because we always work hard to ensure fairness for all, regardless of religion.

“We, Sarawakians, are grateful because we are able to preserve the racial, religious and social harmony in the state which was built many years ago.

“We do not fight each other on religious and other issues because we respect one another and this has become a strong part of our culture,” he said in his first Hari Raya message as the Chief Minister.

Johari added that it could not be denied that as a state with people of various religions, races, and cultures, there were a lot of different views on many topics and issues in Sarawak.

He was, however, grateful that the differences between the people were never severe enough to drive a wedge between them and that they were able to discuss things rationally and find a common ground.

“I urge all Sarawakians to preserve the unity and harmony of the people in the state,”he said before encouraging everyone to celebrate Hari Raya in the spirit of goodwill and brotherhood.
