The Borneo Evangelical Mission church recently celebrated its 71st anniversary.

MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau called on the people of Long Bedian to engage with their present culture while upholding the teachings of the Bible.

Speaking at the Borneo Evangelical Mission church’s 71st anniversary in Long Bedian on Saturday, he said that the teachings from the Bible in the community discarded the old beliefs and brought motivation to embrace change, which brought progress in tandem with happenings taking place in the state and the country.

“The acceptance of Christianity in our community brought in schools and health services even before the formation of Malaysia in 1963,” he said at the event which saw the attendance of more than 1,000 people.

He added missionaries from Australia and Britain who volunteered their services not only taught Bible knowledge and words of God, but they too helped in community development even until Sarawak helped formed Malaysia.

“Today, our generation enjoys a better life and this came due to the decision with faith they have, and therefore we should stick to the teachings of the Bible and never take our faith for granted,” he pointed out.
