Uggah delivers Abang Johari’s speech at the Deepavali Open House 2023

KUCHING: The Sarawak government reaffirms its commitment to supporting all people regardless of race, religion, and background.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that this social inclusion is in line with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“The development and progress we are making will be experienced by every Sarawakian, without exception,” Premier said in a speech delivered on his behalf by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at the Deepavali Open House at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) multi-purpose hall on Sunday.

Abang Johari lauded the contributions of non-governmental organisations such as Hindu Sangam Malaysia Sarawak and ISKCON in assisting the state government. He acknowledged the significant representation of the Indian community by these groups.

Since 2017, the Sarawak government, through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), has disbursed RM5.06 million for temple needs.

Reflecting on the Deepavali Open House 2023, he appreciated the collaborative efforts that ensured the event’s success.

“Deepavali is a time to remember the less fortunate and to celebrate our diversity, fostering unity in our multiracial society,” he noted.

The event saw over 500 attendees from diverse racial backgrounds, symbolising the state’s commitment to inclusiveness and community harmony.
