Upward trend in drug arrests from Jan to Nov

MIRI: Drug arrests in this division have increased in the course of 11 months of this year, with 1,026 individuals detained for various drugs-related offences, compared to the corresponding period last year.

According to Miri OCPD ACP Alexon Naga Chabu, this was an increase of 30 per cent.

“For the period of January until November in 2022, we had detained 789 individuals for various drugs related offences, but this figure has increased,” he disclosed on Wednesday during the Miri Police Headquarters IPD monthly assembly.

Commercial crimes also went up this year for the period of January to November with 365 cases, compared to 314 in the previous year.

Overall, he said, Miri crime index has showed a reduction of two per cent between January to November this year.
