SIBU: DAP Sarawak’s decision to use the party’s rocket symbol in this election may work against it in the event of a Pakatan Harapan victory this Saturday.

Elsewhere the party has gone into the general election using the PH logo.

GPS candidate for the Lanang, Wong Ching Yong, who questioned DAP Sarawak’s rationale said some lawyers felt it is a legal issue DAP Sarawak must face if they get to participate in the formation of the government.

At a press conference on Thursday the SUPP Dudong chief requested legal practitioners among DAP members to clarify this matter because he did not want questions to arise later.

“Among the risks is cancellation or MPs having to resign in line with the anti-hopping law which will later trigger by-elections,” he said without elaborating.

He explained that the issue of unequal use of symbols between party affiliations could invite problems based on existing legislation.

“Therefore, I ask voters in this state not to vote for DAP candidates in GE15 because it will cause problems later on if they succeed in forming a federal government.

“We hope the voters think long and hard about this matter,” he stressed.

After the press conference, Wong together with other GPS component leaders launched his election manifesto as revealed in his previous daily press conference.

Also present was Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.
