BINTULU: A van driver died on the spot following a fatal collision involving a van and an employee bus along Jalan Pesisir Samalaju here yesterday (Mar 12).
A spokesman from the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received an emergency call regarding the accident around 7.40am.
Firemen from Kidurong and Bintulu stations were promptly despatched to the scene to commence extrication works.
On arrival, they confirmed that both drivers were trapped in their seats, and extrication works were carried out using rescue tools.
The first victim, a 39-year-old bus driver who sustained leg injuries, was extricated around 9am and rushed to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the second victim, identified as Toh Yong Teck, 37, was extricated around 10.20am, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The victim’s body was handed over to the police to be transported to the hospital for a post-mortem.
The team also carried out flushing works to clear the road of debris and wrapped up the operation at 10.30am once it was safe.
