SIBU: University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) is now the pride of Sarawakians and recognised internationally.

Speaking at the last day of the university’s 6th convocation ceremony yesterday, UTS vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid attributed the university’s rapid progress to Dr Annuar Rapa’ee’s leadership.

The Nangka assemblyman and current Assistant Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development I (Education and Innovation) was appointed as the board of UTS Board Directors in December, 2020.

“UTS Industrial Vaccination Centre and Mobile Vaccination using UTS’ buses were Dr Annuar’s ideas. For the projects, the university collaborated with Pansar industry, Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), Sibu Hospital, Sibu Municipal Council (MPS), SEGI Faculty of Medicine and various other parties,” said Khairuddin.

Dr Annuar, he added, also played an important role in getting approval during the final process of upgrading University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) to UTS. The university was successfully launched by the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on November 10, 2021.

“In the field of education, Dr Annuar has also suggested the formation of a special chair in UTS in the medical technological field,” said Khairuddin.

To ensure the future development of the university and Sarawak’s higher education, he added he was ready to cooperate with Dr Annuar.
“It is our hope and ambition that one day it will be a university of choice,” he said.

Khairuddin also congratulated Dr Annuar on his appointment as the new chairman of the UTS Board of Directors.
