Vietnamese women and local man fined

KUCHING: A local man and two Vietnamese women were each fined RM13,100 here on Tuesday (June 7) for having drugs.

Chai Ming Tung, 30, Nguyen Thi My Linh, 24, and Pham Thi Cam Tran, 21, each pleaded guilty to their charges read out before Magistrate Fatimah Azura Wan ali.

They were each charged with possessing methamphetamine weighing 0.11g, 1.9g of ecstasy and 16.2g of ketamine in a luxury apartment along Jalan Lapangan Terbang here at about 3.10pm on April 4.

On the first count, they were each sentenced to a fine of RM3,100 or five months in jail; a fine of RM4,000 or five months imprisonment for the second, while the third court earned each of them a fine of RM6,000 or seven months jail.

All the charges were framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12 (3) of the same Act with a fine not more than RM100,000 or imprisonment of not more than five years or both.

The prosecution was handled by Prosecuting Officer Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused were represented by lawyer Lim Lian Kee.
