KUCHING: The visiting Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail was entertained to a poem recital as well as arts and literature performances on Saturday night.
The programme dubbed Malam Pengucapan Puisi Bandaraya Kuching took place at the Pullman Hotel here.
Also present were Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister cum Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapa’ee; Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu; Ministry of Education (MoE) secretary-general Datuk Kamel Mohamad; Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) director for Literature and Language Department Hazami Jahari; Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin and Universiti Malaysia Perlis vice chancellor Prof R Badlishah Ahmad.
Dr Annuar who represented Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, said the event was held to stimulate literary activity among the multi-racial community in Sarawak.
“The works of local poets should be promoted through poetry recital activities and syair (poetry singing),” he said.
He believed that such activity could produce creative and innovative personalities.
At the function, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin presented a donation worth RM3,000 from Tuanku Syed Putra Foundation to Persatuan Veteran Tentera Kor Renjer.
