KUCHING: The Society of Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN), which celebrated its fifth anniversary last Friday (July 29), upholds three pillars to achieve its vision of becoming the voice for cancer patients.

Its president Chris Cheng said these included bringing issues affecting cancer patients to the forefront and advocates for its solutions, to urge the Parliaments to pass the generational tobacco ban bill and support the building of the new cancer hospital in Sarawak besides promoting cancer awareness to the general public by educating them on cancer-related matters.

“We also provide support to cancer patients during their cancer journey.

“These three foundations guide SCAN in all its activities throughout its five years of existence,” said Cheng, adding that he was hopeful that SCAN could achieve more in the future through its World Cancer Day activities, Sarawak Patient Organisation Knowledge Exchange (SPOKE), cancer talks and seminars.

He also thanked Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah and other notable contributors to SCAN for their continuous support and contributions to making it a meaningful and relevant society for the public.

“I would like to thank all these important people for their consistent support and efforts in helping SCAN to achieve its aspirations of helping cancer patients,” he added.

He also gave advice to cancer patients, reminding them to never lose hope and continue to work with the doctors to seek and adhere to their medical advice.

The anniversary celebration held here was attended by some 40 members of SCAN.
