JEPAK: Voters are reminded not to be influenced by the incitement that has gone viral on social media, which calls for voters not to go to the polls for the Jepak by-election on November 4.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, on the other hand, said strong support from all voters is essential in ensuring that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) not only defends the Jepak seat but also wins with a large majority.

He said that the large mandate would allow the government to continue with plans for physical and socioeconomic development for the wellbeing of the people in the area.

“In any election, even if we shout as loud as we can, what counts is the ballot paper.

“So it is important for us to ensure the victory of our candidate, Iskandar, in Jepak with a large majority so that we can continue what has been managed and what has not yet been implemented.

“Not to mention our plans for physical development and in terms of socioeconomic development of our society,” Awang Tengah said to reporters during the Leaders with The People programme at Kampung Hilir Hall, Kuala Tatau here yesterday.

Commenting on the issue of gambling or ‘bookies’ who are expected to take advantage of this by-election, the GPS election director reminded voters not to be influenced by gambling but instead focus on ensuring that the GPS candidate wins this Saturday.

He said that an election is not a betting item but rather a serious matter that will determine the future of this state.

“Yes, it does happen, but we should not be deceived. So, we must focus on aim and determination to ensure success,” he said.
