War hero laid to rest in state funeral

The casket is being brought into the Bukit Kanada BEM church for the funeral ceremony.

MIRI: State leaders, dignitaries, including high ranking military and police officers were among hundreds of mourners at a state funeral for the country’s highest gallantry award recipient ― the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (SP) or the Valor Award ― Sub Inspector (B) Ngalinuh Bala @ Kilah Ratu, 79, on Friday morning.

The late Ngalinuh was laid to rest at the BEM Christian cemetery Lambir on Friday after the solemn ceremony.

Among the State leaders were former Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala who represented Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg,Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail and former commander of the Eastern Field Command Lt Gen Datuk Stephen Mundaw.

Ngalinuh died on Tuesday (June 23) in Miri Hospital.

The casket, draped in the Jalur Gemilang, arrived at the BEM church Bukit Kanada here at 9am. It was carried by eight pall-bearers made up of police officers from Miri police headquarters (IPD Miri), led by SI Thamilvanan Narayanan.

He was buried at the BEM Christian cemetery Lambir, Miri, instead of the Heroes’ Grave at Jalan Budaya in Kuching, at the request of his family,

The late Ngalinuh is survived by his wife, Sabit Iwat@ Sinah Ngalinuh Bala, 73, five children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Ngalinuh was known for his bravery in fighting the communist terrorists in Sibu on April 29, 1972, while escorting and guarding a group of Public Works Department personnel during the shipment of explosives to a quarry in Jalan Ulu Oya.

Some 200 mourners were seen paying their last respects at the BEM church yesterday.
